The New Year

We're just one kitten calender away from abandoning these awkward aught years. Before long, we'll return to the simpler times in which we were able to refer to our times with a cutesy nickname.

We need to build a bridge to the twenty tens and these will be our trusses:

1. A famous athlete will be arrested on gun charges and the media will beat the story to death.

2. A famous politician will be exposed for an adulterous act and apologize at a press conference next to his wife.

3. A Republican will say something about Barack Obama that is so racist that conservatives of all stripes will have to condemn it.

4. A female pop star will release a sex tape.

5. A male pop star will come out of the closet.

6. The winning numbers on September 3rd will be 2, 6, 17, 24, 26, 37, and 41.

Playoff picks:

Eagles over Vikings
Cardinals over Falcons
Colts over Chargers
Dolphins over Ravens

Eagles over Giants
Panthers over Cardinals
Steelers over Dolphins
Colts over Titans

Eagles over Panthers
Steelers over Colts

Eagles over Steelers

Final Score: 56-9
Steelers over Ravens

Eagles over Steelers 47-9

It's a time for optimism.

Let's Win This Thing

I'll soon be boarding a plane to return to New Orleans after a much appreciated trip to my home planet.

Here's what I got for the Prezzy:

The state I waffle on most often is Missouri, which I think is a coin flip. Georgia will be way closer than the polls have predicted and so will Mississippi and Louisiana, less than 4 points difference in each. Barack Obama will win with 53.4% of the vote in a pretty clear mandate.

For the Senate:

Democrats will flip seats in New Hampshire, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Virginia, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Alaska.

Georgia, the potential 60th seat, will see a runoff vote. It will be hotly contested.

For the House:

Democrats will pick up between 30 and 35 seats, a greater total than has generally been predicted.

In New Orleans:

Landrieu 55.4%
Kennedy 43.7%

Jefferson 51.3%
Moreno 45.2%

Harlan 49%
Scalise 49%

Fantasy Politics

Here is the map I made today at WaPo. I am totally qualified to project elections and can guarantee that this will happen in real life. I got five bucks on it.

Revisiting An Irresponsible Prediction

On December 3rd, 2007, I, e, of We Could Be Famous made a bold prediction:

Barack Obama will choose Chuck Hagel as his running mate (weird, right?) and defeat Republicans Mike Huckabee and John McCain in a not-so-close raise.

Two things:

First, I'll readily admit that I thought pundits were underestimating disaffected insurgent Christian voters in the GOP base and I thought Huckabee had a better shot at the nomination than people were giving him. But, I also thought McCain was going to make a strong comeback via New Hampshire. So though I put Huckabee's name first, I didn't actually put who would be the Presidential nominee. Thus, because we haven't really specified what the definition of is is, you'll still have to admit that I'm the greatest political pundit of all time if those two men grace the same ticket.

Second, Chuck Hagel can neither confirm nor deny that he has already decided to be Barack Obama's running mate. I still think that this would be an interesting pick for Senator Obama but I have to admit that I think there a number of guys and gals that would make great running mates. In no particular order they are Wes Clark, Jon Edwards, Evan Bayh, Tim Kaine, Lee Hamilton, and Kathleen Sebelius.

Anyways, just an excuse to include that link about Hagel maybe kinda joining the ticket as Obama's VP. . . I'll be responding to love letters from my fans for the rest of the day.

Wanton, Irresponsible Prediction of the Week

I reserve the right to deny that this ever happened.

Barack Obama will choose Chuck Hagel as his running mate (weird, right?) and defeat Republicans Mike Huckabee and John McCain in a not-so-close raise.

My rationale for the Hagel pick is that he only sort of was a Republican and been largely against the war in Iraq. He's seen as a reasoned individual, a compromiser. Both he and Obama had separate meetings with Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York, a mutual friend. The media has played up rumors of Bloomberg and Hagel running together on a third party ticket, but I don't buy that at all.

UPDATE:

oh my gosh it's happening

Just the way the guys that sell ad shares for CNN drew it up:

The Drama, The Excitement. Clinton. Obama. It's the NBA on NBC!
