Here he is yesterday calling Barack Obama "well-spoken" a bunch of times.

Now let's remember how Mitt Romney learned so much about African Americans when he studied them on the observance of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday earlier this year.



Mitthew, Mitthew, Mitthew. Black people are not going to just up and disappear. You're going to have to download some new software onto yourself in order to better figure out how to be "well-spoken" when talking to or about the African American community. Right now, at least, I'm having trouble understanding your multimillionaire Mormon slang language. By saying Barack Obama is a "well-spoken celebrity," you mean he's black?

If you need room on your hard-drive, try deleting your 'pandering to the left' application because you haven't used it since you claimed to be to the left of Ted Kennedy on gay marriage. While you're sending things to the recycling bin, might as well just go ahead and also clear off your respect for yourself.

Mitt is himself a lot like an "internet date" in that when you finally see him in person you realize he's just a pedophile in a creepy sweater.

Another note on "internet dates" is that eharmony.com, one of the nation's largest internet dating services was founded by a fundagelical named Neil Clark Warren. Mr. Warren has close ties to James Dobson and bars homosexuals from using his patented dating service by refusing to provide browsing or registration options for those wishing to form relationships with individuals of the same sex. I wonder if Warren and Dobson will be helping to bankroll Romney's internet date with the VP slot even though he used to claim to be progressive on gay rights.

I Miss Mitt Romney

First I was scared.

Then I was just flabbergasted.

I will support Mitt Romney for every Republican Presidential nomination he ever seeks.

Mitt Romney Hates Black People

No that's harsh.

It's that he's only heard of them obscurely through the ramblings of associates and colleagues.

He just says "Who let the dogs out" with out any provocation... I watched and I was lost for words for awhile.

It's just embarrassing for everyone.

He's got some momentum to win the Republican nomination all of a sudden, it would seem.

Caucus Prediction Time

Big day for soap opera fans. This storyline has been tirelessly built since 2006. The first payoff is tonight.

Did you buy into the inevitability of Hillary Clinton's victory? Remember when she was considered unbeatable? It happened. Shame she just blasted through so many millions of dollars... because Iowa democrats are voting the anti-establishment ticket.

I never believed that invincibility bullsh*t. That never appeared to be the case to me. Nice narrative for the media to run with, though.

'90s Democrats are out.

Progressive populism is in.

Flannel is in.

Patterned zip-up hoodies are out.

When these turn out to be the results tonight, I will be happy happy:

1. Barack Obama: 40%
2. Jon Edwards: 33%
3. Hillary Clinton: 27%

I'm having a harder time handicapping the Republican race because Republican voters are... I just won't say anything.

For weeks, I've been going back and forth with Oyster and Jeffrey regarding this race. I've been saying again and again that Huckabee would be able to sustain his momentum enough to carry Iowa. I still believe that argument is compelling.

He is uniquely positioned as the grassroots populist Republican answer to the progressive movement that is threatening to unite Democrats on the other side.

Romney and Giuliani are actually quite similar candidates due to their position changes on a variety of social issues and they're support for and from the traditional bastions of economic and industrial neo-conservatism.

McCain holds down prudent, moderate lane. The thinking man's Republican, as it were. Still crazy, but seems less crazy.

I've been arguing that this would be enough, in spite of the traditional Republican thirst for a war-hawking type.... I thought that McCain would surge a little bit and I thought Romney would continue his collapse. Mostly, I thought Huckabee would take the caucus with surprising ease.

But Huckabee's recent MAJOR AND INEXCUSABLY EMBARRASSING gaffes on foreign policy, namely the idiotic statement he made last week about illegal immigration from Pakistan, have really poisoned his candidacy.

Thus, Romney has inexplicably regained ground in spite of the fact that he's Gordon Gekko with a creepy sweater. So the Republican race is going to be tighter than I initially thought.
Either way McCain is in great position. He'll be in third, I believe. He'll easily be able to spin third place as a big plus given how he's largely ignored campaigning in Iowa as he did in 2000. He's rocking in New Hampshire right now and blast ahead to a surprisingly easy victory there, riding the momentum and positive media attention from his better-than-anticipated Iowa showing.

Here we go:

3. McCain: 20%

I don't think Obama is going to finish lower than first in a single primary until Nevada. I think he's going to get Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina before pundits even have the chance to find this blog to anoint me caucadomis.

The Dumbest Thing I've Read Today

Mike Huckabee has an interesting take indeed on what should be done in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto's assassination. This is from the NYT:

“We ought to have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our borders and particularly to make sure if there’s any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country.”

On Friday, in Pella, Iowa, he expanded on those remarks.

“When I say single them out I am making the observation that we have more Pakistani illegals coming across our border than all other nationalities except those immediately south of the border,” he told reporters in Pella. “And in light of what is happening in Pakistan it ought to give us pause as to why are so many illegals coming across these borders.”

In fact, far more illegal immigrants come from the Philippines, Korea, China and Vietnam, according to recent estimates from the Department of Homeland Security.

“The fact is that the immigration issue is not so much about people coming to pick lettuce or make beds, it’s about someone coming with a shoulder-fired missile,” he said.

Wow. Where do I start? Almost leaves you speechless it's so crazy.

He's using Bhutto's assassination as justification to build a wall on our border with Mexico - absolutely nuts. Ridiculously irrational.

This is THE typical reaction that some sort of grassroots conservative charismatic leader might have. It plays upon all of the fears, insecurities, and international ignorance of the vote base he seeks. I would very much like to see Barack Obama destroy Mr. Huckabee in a landslide next November.

We're all waiting with baited breath for Mitthew Romney's pathetic attempt to outflank these Huckabee comments from an even more irrational right-wing mindset.
