I'm only surprised that the announcement came so soon. I would have expected him to wait until March-ish.

When is the election in Chicago?

A couple of things about that article.

1)It states that Vallas was invited to address the DNC last year. Is that true, or something he's putting out there?

2)Ordinarily, when opportunistic assholes switch parties, they are obligated to provide some sort of "principle" related excuse for doing so. Even John Neely Kennedy came up with some line about how the GOP more closely represented his "values". Vallas only says that people want "competence" Is that really the best he can come up with?

3)The second paragraph opens with a sentence containing the phrase, "speed-talking, reform-minded maverick" Does the Sun-Times employ editors? And should they be allowed to carry firearms for cases such as this?

Let's see. He went over budget 300%, trippling the per-pupil expenditure to decrease class size to buy himself a couple of years test scores; presided over purging more veteran teacher and replaced them with Bleach for America kids; secured a plan to demolish most of the schools before blacks could return. Now has the good sense to get out of town before the state money that created the illusion of success dries up, class size skyrockets and all his sweetheart contracts are found out.

They ure know how to grow them in Chicago.

Yes, he did go over budget, but he did not "purge" veteran teachers. If a teacher was certified, they stayed. He also was not in charge when students were put on waiting lists to enter a public school.

He did, however commit a great deal of grandstanding and wasteful spending that cannot last past his term here.
